John's visit with college/JVC friend Larry in Quito

In the middle of November John went to Quito to meet with Larry, his friend from college and JVC.   Larry stopped in Quito for a few days on his way to Santiago, Chile to visit with his daughter who is doing a semester abroad.   It was great to see Larry for a few days and get re-acquainted with Quito.   We rode the Teleferico  gondola up to 12,943 feet and then hiked higher for about an hour.     We encountered some joggers who had an altimeter and they were able to tell us that we ascended to a height of 13,527 ft.   We had the stamina to go higher but there was an ominous rain cloud coming in and we weren't prepared for inclement weather.

Approximately 13527 feet above sea level, looking down at Quito.
